Straight answers before the car comes in
Most of what people ask us comes down to cost, towing and whether something is serious. Here are the short answers. Every repair is done in our own shop, and the longer notes from the shop’s own FAQ follow below.
Cost, tows and what to watch
From the shop’s own FAQ
What does a transmission change involve?
The old unit is disconnected from the engine and taken out of the car, then a new or rebuilt transmission goes in and every connection is put back. It’s the answer when slipping, leaks or a loss of drive can’t be solved with a filter and a fluid check, which is why those come first on the transmission page.
Do you handle radiators?
Yes. We check the radiator for leaks and damage, repair it or install a new one, then refill and bleed the system. A radiator that holds pressure is what keeps the engine from overheating. More on the cooling page.
Can you fix things other than transmissions and radiators?
Yes. Brakes, suspension, engines and electrical faults all come through our bays. If it's part of keeping a car safe and running, bring it in or call and describe what it's doing.
How do I know if I need a repair or a replacement?
Slipping gears, a delay before the car engages, or fluid leaks are the usual flags, but a symptom alone doesn't settle it. We run a diagnostic to find the root cause, then tell you whether the part can be repaired or has to be replaced. You decide once you've seen what we found.
Do you tow, and how far?
We tow after breakdowns, accidents and other emergencies, locally and over long distances. Call (920) 217-5911 and we'll come to the car. If it needs the bay, it goes straight to the shop.
Can you give me an estimate over the phone?
Not honestly. The cost depends on how far the problem has gone, the vehicle and, for transmissions, the exact unit. We need to assess the car first, and then you get a detailed quote before any work starts.
